Hammerstein Integral Equations with Indefinite Kernel
This paper deals with the problem of finding solutions of the --._rstein integral equation. It is shown that this problem can be reduced to the study of the critical points of certain functional defined on L2(). Existence of a solution of the Hammersteln integral equation is proved. Some other related results of interest are obtained.
متن کاملIs the Helmholtz Equation Really Sign-Indefinite?
The usual variational (or weak) formulations of the Helmholtz equation are sign-indefinite in the sense that the bilinear forms cannot be bounded below by a positive multiple of the appropriate norm squared. This is often for a good reason, since in bounded domains under certain boundary conditions the solution of the Helmholtz equation is not unique at certain wavenumbers (those that correspon...
متن کاملDecomposition and integral representation of Cauchy interactions associated with measures
It is well-known that the modelization of interactions in Continuum Physics deals with set functions associated with physical quantities rather than with functions evaluated at single points (see e.g. [7]). Very important examples of these are the stress and the heat flux. This, in turn, implies that the concept of subbody of a material body B has to be taken into account. However, subbodies ar...
متن کاملA Nonlinear Periodic System with Nonsmooth Potential of Indefinite Sign
In this paper we consider a nonlinear periodic system driven by the vector ordinary p-Laplacian and having a nonsmooth locally Lipschitz potential, which is positively homogeneous. Using a variational approach which exploits the homogeneity of the potential, we establish the existence of a nonconstant solution.
متن کاملPeriodic Parabolic Problems with Nonlinearities Indefinite in Sign
Let Ω ⊂ R be a smooth bounded domain. We give sufficient conditions (which are also necessary in many cases) on two nonnegative functions a, b that are possibly discontinuous and unbounded for the existence of nonnegative solutions for semilinear Dirichlet periodic parabolic problems of the form Lu = λa (x, t) u − b (x, t) u in Ω × R, where 0 < p, q < 1 and λ > 0. In some cases we also show the...
